GOVERNMENT OF ONTARIO — TORONTO — The Ontario government is making it easier and more convenient for people to connect to care by expanding the role of registered nurses to prescribe medications, after meeting specific requirements, for certain conditions such as contraception, immunizations, smoking cessation, and topical wound care in a variety of settings close to home, including long-term care homes and retirement homes.

How it works
Fairmount Home employees who refer qualified candidates to work are eligible for a bonus that is paid-out as the referred employee is hired and meets set milestones.
Applicants have the option to indicate the name of an employee who referred them to the County of Frontenac when they register for their StarGarden account. The option is located at the bottom of the “Details” section in the StarGarden account area.
Milestones
For a new permanent full time employee referral:
- Fairmount Home employees who refer a candidate who is hired to fill a permanent, full time position will each receive $75.
- When the referred new employee successfully completes the probationary period (60 worked shifts from the date of hire), the Fairmount employee who referred them will receive an additional $125.
For a new permanent part time employee referral:
- Fairmount Home employees who refer a candidate who is hired to fill a permanent, part time position will each receive $50.
- When the referred new employee successfully completes the probationary period (80 worked shifts from the date of hire), the Fairmount employee who referred them will receive an additional $50.
For a new permanent casual employee referral:
- Fairmount Home employees who refer a candidate who is hired to fill a casual position will each receive $25.
- When the referred new employee successfully completes the probationary period (80 worked shifts from the date of hire), the Fairmount employee who referred them will receive an additional $50.
Criteria
- Referees must be actively employed at Fairmount Home in order to receive their referral bonuses.
- The applicant must provide the name of their referee at the time of application.
- Referral bonuses will be paid via payroll and are subject to regular tax deductions for incentives.
- The referral program will be reevaluated each year to gauge its effectiveness.
Current employees are invited to contact their manager or a human resources representative with any further questions they may have.

TORONTO — The Ontario government is providing up to $1.25 billion to long-term care homes this year to hire and retain thousands more long-term care staff across the province, to continue increasing the amount of direct care time provided to residents. This is part of the government’s historic four-year, $4.9 billion commitment to hire and retain more than 27,000 registered nurses, registered practical nurses and personal support workers over four years and ensure residents receive, on average, four hours of direct care per day by March 31, 2025.

For benefits earned on or before December 31, 2022, OMERS uses the average of the CPI for the 12-month period ending in October and compares it to the average for the same period in the previous year. The percentage increase determines the inflation adjustment for pensions up to a maximum increase of 6%. The formula for calculating the OMERS inflation adjustment is set out in the OMERS Plan text.

TORONTO — The Ontario government is launching one of the largest recruitment and training drives in the province's history to deliver on its commitment to improve care for seniors in long-term care homes. The province released its long-term care staffing plan that sets out actions to hire more staff, improve working conditions for existing staff, drive effective and accountable leadership, and implement retention strategies.
