Fish Creek Bridge

Fish Creek Bridge (Bobs Lake Road)

Update: September 23, 2025:

Due to unforeseen site conditions, completion of the Fish Creek Bridge Project will be delayed.

Crews have been progressing well with work on excavation and shoring. However, during construction, it was discovered that bedrock was deeper than what the original geotechnical investigations projected. This change means that the cofferdam installation is more complex, with increased structural design efforts to weld and brace supports for the outer walls. Accordingly, the construction plan must be adjusted to reflect these changes.

Revised schedules project that construction will be completed by November 21. For questions, please reach out to our Public Services department at 613-376-3027 or email pwsupport@southfrontenac.net.

Update: July 8, 2025:

Please be advised that Bob's Lake Road will be closed to all traffic between Walleye Lane and Morton Point Lane starting today (Tuesday, July 8, 2025), through to Tuesday, September 30, 2025. The closure date was changed by the third party construction company. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Update: June 24, 2025:

Please be advised that Bob's Lake Road will be closed to all traffic between Walleye Lane and Morton Point Lane starting Wednesday, July 2, 2025, through Tuesday, September 30, 2025. This closure is necessary to facilitate the removal of the existing bridge and construction of a new two-lane bridge across Fish Creek. Detour routes will be clearly marked and will route traffic to the other side of the closure via Road 38 through Parham. Access to all residences and businesses for the public and emergency services will be maintained at all times. This project is part of ongoing infrastructure improvements to enhance safety and transportation in the area. For further information, please contact the Public Services Department at 613-376-3027.

Update, May 12, 2025:

The Fish Creek Bridge Replacement contract has been awarded to Thomas Fuller Construction Co. Ltd. Thomas Fuller’s crews will be installing the necessary environmental fencing controls at the project site in early May. The exact schedule for the bridge demolition and road closure is not currently set however works will be scheduled when in-water restrictions are lifted on July 15th, 2025. Further updates will be provided on the project web page in late June.

Further project details can be found in the Public Meeting Presentation in the documents section.

March 12, 2025: New Load Restriction in Effect – Fish Creek Bridge

Please be advised that recent engineering inspections carried out in 2025 on the Fish Creek bridge (Bob’s Lake Road) have identified new structural deficiencies that warrant cautionary changes to the posted load restrictions currently seen at the crossing.

As a result, effective Monday, March 24, 2025, the Township of South Frontenac will be implementing new load restrictions on the bridge that will limit the maximum weight to 5 tonnes per axle for all vehicles until the bridge replacement is completed in the summer of 2025. The new load restriction is being implemented in accordance with By-Law 2025-12 and will be subject to enforcement under the Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O., 1990.

For further information on these load restrictions, please contact the Public Services Department at 613-376-3027.

Past News:

Public Meeting: The Council of the Township of South Frontenac held a Public Meeting on the Proposed Replacement of the Fish Creek Bridge located on Bob's Lake Road on February 11, 2025, at 7:00 pm. The presentation from this public meeting can be viewed under the 'Documents' to the right.

Information on Project: The Fish Creek bridge is a single lane bridge currently located on Bob’s Lake Road just south of the intersection of Fish Creek Road. This concrete structure has a deck width of 5.2m and currently spans a distance of 6.7m over a navigable waterway connecting to Bobs Lake. The crossing also has posted load restrictions which limit the weight of vehicles that are able to use the crossing. Available records suggest that this bridge was constructed around 1927 and is nearing the end of its useful service life.

The Township has initiated studies to evaluate the condition of the bridge and is evaluating possible strategies for replacement.

Key considerations for the project include the following:

  • Improve level of service to support a new two-way vehicle crossing
  • Upgrade guide rail systems to meet current roadside safety standards
  • Structural designs that will support removal of posted load restrictions
  • Preservation of the navigable opening on Fish Creek to allow continued movement of small boats and watercraft

This project is being planned as a Schedule B project under the 2023 Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process as prescribed under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. All replacement options will consider social, environmental and economic impacts.

A Public Information Meeting will be held in the future to provide more information and solicit feedback on the project. Details and dates will be advertised once available.

  • if this bridge if on a major roadway why was not a Bailey bridge constructed to detour traffic. I am sure the army would love to practice building it

    John asked 18 days ago

The Township advertised and held a public meeting for the Fish Creek Bridge on February 11th, 2025.  Details of the project presentation can be found in the Documents section.

Bob’s Lake Road is considered a low volume rural road at the Fish Creek Bride crossing.  The average annual daily traffic counts at the crossing are approximately 200 vehicles per day.   Based on the low traffic volumes, stakeholder input and detour considerations, no proposal was brought forward to introduce a bailey bridge as part of the project scope.

  • Is crossing on foot possible.?

    Freya asked 5 days ago

The road closure for the Fish Creek Bridge project does not include temporary facilities for pedestrians or cyclists across the waterway during the construction period.

  • It is July 7 but there is no sign of any activity. What's up?

    Dougy asked 3 months ago

Hello. Thank you for your question. The closure will start today, Tuesday, July 8.

  • When is construction/bridge closure going to start?

Kim Garrick Telford asked 5 months ago

The Fish Creek Bridge demolition and closure is tentatively scheduled to occur from July 15th, 2025, to October 1st, 2025.    Residents may observe some activities at the site in May and June; however, those activities will be restricted to the installation and maintenance of bridge netting, environmental fences,  and project signage.  No road closures will be planned otherwise until mid July.

Further project details can be found in the Public Meeting Presentation in the documents section.

  • What will be the dimensions of the new bridge?

Peter Thorp-Levitt asked 8 months ago

The Fish Creek Bridge is planned to be replaced with a new two-lane bridge with a 7.6m wide platform including new roadside barrier systems.  The cross-sectional width for traffic will be similar to the new bridge recently installed on Buck Bay Road just north of Westport Road in 2022.
