Project FAQs
Why is the road being reconstructed now?
Sunbury Road from Battersea Road to Factory has the lowest pavement condition rating in the arterial class of roadways, under the Township’s 2022 Comprehensive Road Need Study. The road surface is considered to be well beyond the state where it can be reasonably maintained or rehabilitated. Total reconstruction is required.
When will construction start?
Construction is expected to start in May 2023 to September 2023.
Who will complete the work?
Construction activities will be led by GIP Paving Inc. Separate notices will be issued by their company for after hours contact information.
What is the budget and where did the funding come from?
The Council approved budget for this project is $3.8M of which $1.06M is provided by the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund.
How will this affect traffic in the area?
Traffic access on Sunbury Road will be provided at all times and a minimum of one lane will be maintained during active construction for emergency services vehicles. Traffic delays should be anticipated for the duration of the project. Drivers must drive with caution and obey all traffic signage and personnel at all times.
Sunbury Road is a designated Emergency Detour Route (EDR) that is used to divert/detour traffic in the event of a provincial highway closure. Sunbury Road EDR has been considered in the design of this project.
Is there anything I need to do to prepare for the construction?
Landscaping features, flowers, fencing, or other physical objects located in the Township road allowance in front of your property may need to be relocated before construction begins to avoid damage. Landowners will be individually contacted where concerns are found.
What do I do if I have mobility or accessibility needs or concerns?
Individuals with mobility or accessibility needs should contact the Township to discuss accommodations needed during construction. The Township will work with landowners to accommodate resident requirements wherever possible.
How will this impact mail delivery?
Access to mailboxes may be restricted for a short period of time while the work is being carried out. Mailboxes that need to be removed will be reinstalled at the sole cost of the Township. Residents will be notified prior to mailbox relocation.
Will my driveway access be impacted by construction?
Resident access to their properties may be restricted for a short period of time while certain works are being carried out. The Township will aim to provide a minimum of 24 hours notice ahead of these planned disruptions.
Will the construction work interfere with garbage or recycling collection?
Residents should continue to place garbage and recycling out for collection at end of their driveway by 7 am on their regular collection day. During construction, the Contractor may move a resident’s garbage and recycling materials to a centralized collection location for safety and convenience. The Contractor will return recycling boxes and garbage cans to each property after collection has been completed. Residents can help by adding their civic address to their blue boxes or garbage cans using a permanent black marker.
What will the Township do about dust control?
During construction, the Contractor will use watering trucks and/or dust suppressants to manage dust control.
Will the fence at the front of the lot be impacted by the construction work?
If any grading or ditching work has an impact on fencing, the Township will contact individual landowners in advance to discuss the details of any improvements prior to the work.
What will the hours of work be on the project?
Work will typically be done Monday to Friday from 7 am to 7 pm in accordance with our noise bylaw, By-Law 2015-41.
Weekend work may be considered late in the project if weather delays are encountered. If weekend work is deemed necessary, advance notice will be provided to the area so that residents may plan accordingly.
What do I do if I live on the road and have key events or activities (moving, family gathering, weddings, pool installations, site construction, etc..) planned this summer?
Residents are encouraged to reach out to the Township in advance to advise of any special events or activities that may be happening at their property this summer. Township crews will do their best to plan or schedule works in a manner that reduces inconveniences where possible.
Please contact Public Services at 613-376-3027 Ext. 4331 or email pwsupport@southfrontenac.net.
Will I be able to park on the road this winter or summer?
No parking will be allowed on the road for the duration of construction.
