GIS teams earns 2026 BeSpatial award

There are Frontenac Geographic Information Systems Specialists Robin Kwik and Anand Charvin with a new BeSpatial Best Open-Source GIS and Open Data Award at the BeInspired conference in Burlington, May 26.
The award is for “individuals or projects that make significant contributions to the development, promotion, or utilization of open-source geospatial technologies; especially for efforts fostering collaboration and accessibility through the use of open-source GIS tools that leverage open data.”
Frontenac County GIS specialists, Robin Kwik and Anand Charvin with their 2026 BeSpatial Award, May 26.Mr. Charvin and Ms. Kwik applied for and earned it for the Frontenac Open-Source GIS Toolkit, a collection of utilities, built here in Frontenac, that streamline real mapping and analysis workflows. These tools are shared openly among GIS professionals, so they can be used and adapted according to use case and needs.
The tools include:
- AI‑powered road and pavement marking detection using YOLO workflows
- AGOL Backup Utility: GUI/CLI tool for ArcGIS Online and Portal content backup and restore
- NG911 QA/QC scripts: Fishbone, RoadRange, and Parity checks for civic address and road segment validation
- Civic Address & Road Segment Search + County‑wide Road Name Search for fast, accurate lookups
- ArcGIS Content Galaxy: visualize Portal item dependencies as an interactive graph
The tools work alongside the Frontenac Open Data Portal, a separate, regularly updated hub for public datasets and resources.
Tools power workflows. Data powers decisions. Both are open.
