Why is the bridge being rehabilitated now?

The Township currently has 44 bridges and large culvert assets that have a span (length of crossing) that is 3.0m or greater.  All of these structures a required to be inspected by a qualified engineer once every two years under Ontario Regulation 104/97 Standards for Bridges.   All inspection procedures follow the outline of the Ontario Structure Inspection Manual.

In 2025, the Eagle Creek Bridge was last inspected by Greer Galloway Consulting Engineers and the findings indicated that the structure components were in poor condition overall. The engineering report recommended a full replacement of the structure and the report can be found as an attachment to this project page. Replacement of the Eagle Creek Bridge is considered a high priority for investment within the Township’s Asset Management Plan.

    When will construction start?

Replacement of the structure is expected to start in July 2026 with works continuing until November 2026.

    Who will complete the work?

The reconstruction project will be led by a General Contractor.

What is the project budget and where did the funding come from?

The overall budget for the project will be $1,103,500 with funding provided in part from the Canada Community Building Fund.

How is this going to affect traffic in the area?

The project will involve an extended road closure with detours in place for the duration of the contract.  Details on the detour and timing of the road closure will be posted on the project site in advance of construction however closure is anticipated to commence in July and take 10 to 12 weeks.

How does this project consider fish, wildlife and species at risk?

The bridge replacement work will not include any components of in-water work however mitigation efforts will be included in the project to protect the adjacent waterway and shoreline environment. Consultations with the Conservation Authority and other agencies will provide direction on project timing, water restrictions, and measures to be included in the work area to protect the environment.

Will the construction work interfere with garbage or recycling collection?

Residents will continue to place garbage and recycling out for collection at end of their entranceway by 7am on the regular collection day, as required under the bylaw.

What will the hours of work be on the project?

Unless approved otherwise by the Township, hours of Construction will be set by By-Law 2015-41 - To Prohibit and Regulate Noise Within the Township of South Frontenac. Hours of construction on this project will typically be Monday to Friday from 7am to 7pm.

Weekend work may only be considered late in the project if weather delays are encountered. If weekend work is deemed necessary, advance notice will be provided to the area so that residents may plan accordingly.

What do I do if I live on the road near the project and have key events or activities (moving, family gathering, weddings, pool installations, site construction, etc..) planned this summer?

Residents are encouraged to reach out to the Township in advance to advise of any special events or activities that may be happening at their property this summer. Township crews will do their best to plan or schedule works in a manner that reduces inconveniences where possible.
