Consultation has concluded

In early February this year, Council approved the 2022 Budget which included the reconstruction of Westport Road from Wolfe Lake Road to 4km west. One of the key highlights of the project will include the addition of new hard surfaced shoulders on both sides of the road to support on-road cycling activities and to reduce shoulder maintenance cost. This road was last constructed over 20 years ago and is now considered to be at the end of its’ useful service life. This section of the corridor forms part of the Township’s arterial network (former County Road # 8) and provides key connectivity to neighbouring Rideau Lakes Township.

The reconstruction project will include the following activities and improvements:

  • pulverizing the existing road surface as part of the new road base
  • placement of new granular base materials to meet current and forecasted traffic needs
  • ditching improvements for improved road drainage
  • driveway culvert and roadway culvert replacements
  • minor rock removals to address roadside hazards at designated locations
  • wider travel lanes and a new double surface treatment (tar and chip)

The Westport Road project is categorized as a Schedule “A” project under the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process and is considered a pre-approved construction project under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act.

Construction activities will be led by Township forces and road resurfacing will be completed by Miller Paving.

The project is expected to be 10 to 12 weeks in duration with works completed in late August 2022.
