TheSydenham Lake bridge and dam isa multi-lane structurelocated on Sydenham Lake170 metres northwestof the intersection of Wheatley Street near Foodland and Home Hardware.The structure consists of a double cell cast-in-place concrete boxculvert. The total structure length end-to-end is 8.6 metres and 14.5 metres wide withtwo sidewalks and an 8.5 metre road platform. Available records suggest the bridge and dam was constructed around 1978 and needsrehabilitationto extend its life.
Key information
The Township will be partnering with the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority (Dam Operator) on this project.
Work will begin in May 2024 and will take 10-12 weeks with completion in August 2024.
Work will typically be done between the hours of 7 am and 7 pm, Monday to Friday (if weekend work is required, we'll notify area residents)
The road and sidewalk will be accessible at all times with occasional single-lane vehicle traffic. Expect traffic delays.
The project includes the following activities and improvements:
Install newtraffic barrier system to meet current roadside safety standards.
Upgrade pedestrian railing system to conform to the current Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code.
Structural concrete repair to the sidewalk, bridge deck and soffit, and the downstream retaining wall.
Removal of the existing asphalt road surface, waterproofing of the bridge deck and anew asphalt road surface.
