Trail moves closer to completion

Frontenac County – Frontenac, Renfrew, and Lanark Counties; and the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) have formally agreed to begin the process of transferring ownership of some remaining sections of the historic K&P Trail from the MVCA to their respective Counties.

When the ownership transfer is complete, the Counties will assume stewardship of the trail sections, ensuring continued investment in maintenance, accessibility, and promotion for residents and visitors alike. The Counties and MVCA will work together to establish clear title and transfer of all the property holdings.
“The K&P Trail helps define our County’s environmental heritage and unites its people and communities,” says Frontenac County Warden Bill Saunders. “It is a public asset, a central tourism attraction, and a key driver of economic development. This agreement among our partners is an important next step toward completing the K&P Trail for visitors and residents of Eastern Ontario.”
The K&P Trail is a former railway line turned multi-use recreational corridor. It is a vital link across Eastern Ontario. The K&P Trail continues to attract hikers, cyclists, ATV riders, and outdoor enthusiasts from across Ontario and beyond. Its scenic landscapes, historic roots, and accessibility make it a cornerstone of local tourism, while also offering residents a healthy and affordable way to enjoy the outdoors.
