K&P Trail Rehabilitation Update: October 9
This week work began to rehabilitate the K&P Trail between Snow Road Station and Wilbur. Construction is progressing, with several important activities completed along the section between Road 509 and KM 107 near Wilbur.
Recent construction activities include:
Bridge access: A temporary bridge has been installed at the Cranberry Creek crossing to accommodate construction equipment.
Environmental protection: Environmental protection measures have been installed, with remaining sediment and erosion control measures nearing completion. Recent rainfall has resulted in minor delays to this work.
Drainage improvements: Existing culverts have been cleaned, and new and replacement culverts have been installed to improve drainage along the trail corridor.
Trail grading: Initial grading of the trail corridor is nearing completion, with placement of new aggregate material expected to begin shortly.
Base Aggregates: The base of the trail has been raised in areas prone to flooding. Gravel surface upgrades are expected to begin next week.
Further updates will be provided as work progresses.
Thanksgiving Long Weekend – Trail Closure and Detour
Trail users are reminded that the K&P Trail between Snow Road Station and Lavant Station remains closed throughout the Thanksgiving long weekend (October 10–12). The closure is scheduled to remain in effect until November 6, 2026. During this period, trail users travelling north from Snow Road Station must follow the designated detour along Road 509 and South Lavant Road, reconnecting with the K&P Trail at Lavant Station. All users are asked to observe posted closure signage and barricades, remain outside the active construction area, and exercise additional caution when travelling along public roads.
Construction will continue over the coming weeks, subject to weather and site conditions. Further updates will be provided as work progresses.
