Update on ATV Access Request - K&P Trail South of Verona to Harrowsmith

After the public meeting regarding this request on July 5, 2023, the Planning & Economic Development Committee put forward a motion to defer the decision:

That the Planning and Economic Development Advisory Committee defer the decision to extend the ATV use on the K&P Trail South of Verona to Harrowsmith until the committee receives more information from the Manager of Economic Development on the safety, liability, bylaw enforcement, comparable and additional use data.

Efforts by the County have been underway to gather crucial data, reaching out to entities such as the OPP, Trans Canada Trail, and neighboring jurisdictions responsible for similar trails. Unfortunately, some responses are still pending due to the heightened demand during the busy summer trail season. County staff are awaiting this information to fulfill the committee's request.

In addition, Trans Canada Trail is adding mobile data reports that will complement the data from Frontenac County physical trail counters and is expected to significantly contribute to the committee’s considerations. This service became available to Frontenac County on October 2, 2023.

To ensure a thorough presentation, a detailed report is planned for the regular committee meeting in December 2023. This update aims to equip the committee with the necessary information to make an informed decision on the matter. The County will circulate an email to those registered for this page and post a link to the Committee Report on the Engage Frontenac site prior to the Committee meeting.
