Ministry of Environment reps, MPP John Jordan, Municipal Servces Corporation reps discuss communal services initiative at Jan 23 meeting

There was a great meeting and conference in Brockville, January 23, about the Frontenac Communal Services initiative. Communal services will come with many advantages here in Frontenac that may benefit rural communities everywhere. High among them are a broader range of housing options including small homes, townhouses, apartments, condos, and seniors’ homes. Communal services can also clear the way for a new range of possibilities for new and existing businesses.

There are some regulatory adjustments and changes that need to happen before the communal services initiative can really take off. Those changes, and the many social economic and environmental advantages that come with communal services, was the substance of the conversation.

The Jan 23 meeting group included representatives from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks; Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston MPP John Jordan; Frontenac Municipal Services Corporation President, and Mayor of the Township of Central Frontenac, Frances Smith; staff members from Frontenac County and The Township of South Frontenac; and representatives from water and wastewater treatment companies Clearford Water Systems, and Newterra.

Many thanks to the MECP attendees, MPP Jordan and all who attended to discuss this important matter. Thanks, too, to the good people at Newterra for hosting.
