Climate change is the most critical issue we face today. It will take action at every level, from federal, provincial and municipal governments, to businesses and individuals to address climate change.

South Frontenac Township is in the process of developing a Climate Change Action Plan. The goals are to:

  1. Identify where we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions within our operations.
  2. Evaluate risks and vulnerabilities to municipal infrastructure, services, and operations, to enhance resilience.

While this phase of the plan focuses on municipal operations and assets to get our own house in order first, we know to be successful in addressing climate change, we must harness the ideas and passion of our community to think globally and act locally and all be agents of change.

We invite you to share your ideas, comments and questions on this site on what the Township should be doing, and for the community at large. Please take the time to complete our Climate Survey.

The impact of climate change on our region

The impact of climate change is real. In Ontario, we can expect average temperatures to rise by as much as 3 to 8 degrees over the next century. This interactive map at climateatlas.ca shows the number of days where the temperature will be 30 degrees Celsius or more in Sydenham in 2051-2080 versus the recent past. This will affect extreme weather events, agriculture, animals, and human health.

Actions and the risk of inaction

The risks of inaction are real. Here are some of the risks we could see in South Frontenac if we don't act now.
