Additional Residential Units - Zoning By-law Amendment
You're invited! Join us at a Statutory Public Meeting to discuss proposed amendments to the Municipality’s Comprehensive Zoning By-law to update provisions for Additional Residential Units.
The amendment would expand opportunities for additional housing by permitting ARUs within a principal dwelling and/or in a detached building on the same lot. Up to three residential units would be permitted in the Rural and Hamlet Zones, while one additional residential unit would be permitted in other zones where a dwelling is permitted. ARUs would not be permitted on waterfront properties.
The amendment would also establish development standards and restrictions related to lot size, setbacks, parking, access, environmental and hazard constraints, and water and wastewater servicing. A Holding Overlay would be applied to ensure that an adequate supply of potable water and sufficient sewage system capacity are demonstrated prior to the development of an ARU.
