Election Day

Municipal elections are held every four years on the fourth Monday of October.

The next Municipal and School Board Election will take place on:

Monday, October 26, 2026

Council members are elected for a four-year term. The current term began in 2022 and ends in 2026.

Unlike federal or provincial elections, municipal candidates do not run under political parties. All candidates run as individuals.

Are You on the Voters’ List?

It’s important to make sure your information is up to date before the election.

As of January 1, 2024, Elections Ontario is responsible for maintaining the voters’ list for municipal and school board elections (this was previously done by MPAC).

What this means for you:

All voter registration, updates, and corrections must now be completed through Elections Ontario.

You can:

  • Confirm your voter information

  • Update your name or address

  • Add yourself if you’re missing

  • Remove outdated information

  • Register property-based eligibility (important in cottage country municipalities like Central Frontenac)

Visit www.registertovoteon.ca to check or update your information.

Who Can Vote in a Municipal Election?

You must be:

  • A Canadian citizen

  • At least 18 years old

  • A resident of Central Frontenac OR

  • A property owner or tenant in Central Frontenac OR

  • The spouse of a property owner or tenant in Central Frontenac

Nominations open May 1 for the 2026 Municipal Election. If you are considering running for Mayor or Councillor, it is important to understand the eligibility requirements before submitting your nomination.

Under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, a person may be nominated for office if they are:
• At least 18 years of age
• A Canadian citizen
• A resident of the Township of Central Frontenac, or the owner or tenant of land in the municipality (or the spouse of such owner or tenant)
• Not otherwise disqualified from holding municipal office

Additional roles, responsibilities, and governance requirements are established under the Municipal Act, 2001.

Nomination Filing Requirements

Nominations for offices administered by the Township of Central Frontenac must be completed on the prescribed forms and filed with the Clerk at the Township Office, located at 14216 Road 38, Sharbot Lake, Ontario.

A nomination must be signed by the candidate and filed either in person or by an agent. Each nomination must also be accompanied by the prescribed filing fee, as follows:
• $200.00 for the office of Mayor
• $100.00 for all other offices

A nomination is not considered complete unless all required forms and the applicable fee are submitted.
