Proposed Privacy Policy for the County of Frontenac

The County of Frontenac is in the process of developing a Policy, which covers the personal information it has under its custody and control.

When municipal institutions, including the County of Frontenac, collect personal information, they are mandated to follow the rules set out in the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), which establish rules for how municipalities may collect, use, and disclose personal information and how they must keep such information secure.

As of January 1, 2027, municipalities will now be required to:

report privacy breaches to the IPC and notifying affected individuals where it is reasonable in the circumstances to believe that there is a real risk of significant harm (RROSH).
Conducting Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) before collecting personal information and updating PIAs before significantly changing the purpose for which the personal information is used or disclosed.
Submit an annual report to the IPC detailing the number of privacy breaches that met the RROSH threshold

The key objectives of the proposed policy update include:

Collection, Use and Disclosure of Personal Information.
The use of Artificial Intelligence, in terms of personal information.
An individuals right of access or correction to their personal information.
Privacy breaches.
Privacy Impact Assessments.
